Taking Kali’s Legacy Global: Expanding Coloring Kali’s World and Kali’s Law Worldwide
Posted by Heather Ella Rise on January 14, 2026
As the founder of Coloring Kali’s World Foundation and Kali Ashley's mom, my vision extends far beyond borders. Kali's story—her tragic death from a severe asthma attack amid ignored family court warnings—has already touched hearts worldwide through petitions and media. Now, I'm committed to bringing our mission global: Adapting Kali’s Law for international reforms and expanding the foundation's services to support families in every corner of the world. No child should suffer due to flawed systems, regardless of where they live. Here's what we're planning to do, step by step, to make this a reality.
Our Global Vision: No Family Left Behind, Everywhere
From day one, Coloring Kali’s World will be a worldwide effort. We'll honor Kali by providing borderless support, awareness, and advocacy—adapting to diverse cultural, legal, and social contexts. While U.S. laws form our starting point, we'll collaborate with international partners to address universal issues like child medical neglect in custody, family separation, and judicial bias.
Our slogan, "No Family Left Behind," means ensuring resources reach families in Europe, Asia, Africa, Latin America, and beyond, where family courts often face similar challenges: Gender bias, lack of medical protections, and insufficient accountability.
Bringing Kali’s Law to Other Countries and Nations
Kali’s Law—our model legislation mandating medical safeguards in custody (e.g., physician deference, emergency plans, trauma-informed protections)—will inspire global equivalents. We'll advocate for adaptations under frameworks like the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC), which 196 countries have ratified, emphasizing child best interests and protection from harm. Steps include:
- Research and Adaptation: Partner with orgs like UNICEF and Human Rights Watch to tailor the law to local contexts—e.g., integrating with Europe's Istanbul Convention on violence against women/children or Africa's child rights charters.
- Lobbying Internationally: Start with UN advocacy (e.g., submissions to OHCHR or CRC Committee) to influence guidelines on child custody and violence. We'll push for reforms in countries like the UK (aligning with Domestic Abuse Act), Australia (building on family court reviews), and India (via women's rights coalitions).
- Coalitions and Campaigns: Join global networks like the Global Campaign for Equality in Family Law (GCEFL) or Brave Movement to amplify calls for discriminatory law reforms. Host virtual summits and petitions to build momentum.
- Implementation Support: Once adopted, provide toolkits for enforcement, training judges on medical evidence, and monitoring outcomes—similar to UNODC's child justice programs.
Expanding Coloring Kali’s World Services Around the World
Our foundation's holistic support will go global, adapting to each nation's laws while maintaining core offerings:
- Direct Aid: Virtual mediation/counseling via platforms like Zoom, translated into multiple languages; financial grants through international partners like World Vision; legal aid coalitions with groups like CLADEM in Latin America. We'll offer childcare/transport vouchers tailored to local needs.
- Education and Awareness: Distribute multilingual coloring books digitally (free PDFs) and through schools/clinics in 50+ countries, partnering with WHO for asthma campaigns. Workshops on parenting/legal rights via online hubs.
- Scholarships: Open $20,000 awards internationally, prioritizing global applicants via partnerships like NMF or UN scholarships.
- Advocacy Networks: Build chapters in key regions (e.g., Europe via AFCC equivalents, Asia via child rights NGOs) to enforce representation and accountability.
Challenges like varying laws (e.g., religious courts in Lebanon or war-torn reforms in Ukraine) will be met with flexible, culturally sensitive approaches. We'll start with pilot programs in 5–10 countries, scaling through grants and UN affiliations.
